Gowerton to Mumbles: Ride, Eat, Repeat

Cycle Track

Later this month, Swansea’s long-awaited cycle link between Fairwood Terrace and Gowerton Station will finally be finished — completing a seamless route from Pontarddulais to Mumbles.

An old railway reborn, this path weaves you through wild countryside, hidden foodie spots, and the soul of Swansea’s local scene. Here’s how to ride it like a local:

Start at Pontarddulais: Coffee, First

Coaltown Coffee

Kick off with a caffeine boost at Coaltown Coffee’s Coldown Espresso Bar. Real Welsh roasted artisan coffee, beautifully minimalistic interiors, and arguably the best espresso you’ll find for miles. The perfect start line.

Crossing the M4: Onto the Path

Head down Pentre Road, cross the M4 motorway bridge on the B4296, and join the new cycle track just after the bridge. Smooth, flat, and perfect for getting into a rhythm.

Follow the trail towards Gorseinon, crossing at the Seagers Restaurant crossroads onto Railway Terrace, heading for Kingsbridge.

Kingsbridge: Farmco & Fresh Finds

Stop at the FarmCo Market Hall in Kingsbridge:

Little Valley Bakery pastries
Farm-to-fork Welsh produce
Organic veg
Grass-fed meats from Swansea and Carmarthenshire farms

It’s a true local food haven — all under one roof.

Gowerton Detour: Pies and Plates

Pass under a bridge and onto Fairwood Terrace. (From May 2025, a direct link to Gowerton Station will open!)

Peel off onto Victoria Road towards Woodlands:

Motley Pie and Coffee: Artisan pies, great coffee.
Nomad Bar and Kitchen: Small plates, craft beers, cocktails under the sun.
Woodlands Food Stops

Dunvant: Farm Yards and Ale Gardens

Rejoin the cycle path and pass our Coop and Kiln egg farm. Then, ride through Dunvant Park and Clyne Woods BMX towards:

The Railway Inn — Cask ales, outdoor music, and old-school charm.

Blackpill Fork: Swansea or Mumbles?

At Blackpill, the path splits:

Right to Mumbles:

Ripples Café — Homemade artisan ice cream on the beach.
Gower Seafood Hut — Fresh seafood straight from a horse trailer.

Left to Swansea:

Swansea Market — Cockles, laverbread, and local produce.
Grandad Needs His Medicine — Slow-cooked beef sandwiches with a twist.
Mumbles or Swansea

Need to Know:

Distance: 13 miles Pontarddulais to Mumbles
Best for: Foodies, families, leisure riders
Surface: 95% smooth, traffic-free
Pro Tip: Bring a backpack — you will want to stop and shop.

Final Word:

This isn’t just a bike ride.
It’s coffee, croissants, pies, craft beer, farm-fresh eggs, seafood, and a glimpse of local Wales.

Ride slow. Eat well. Soak it all in.
